Our Preschool Program
Our Preschool program for 3, 4 and 5 year olds focuses on all aspects of preparing your child for kindergarten. Each of our weekly Lesson Plans is structured so that it works on many of these Kindergarten Readiness Skills. These skills are age dependent and some skills are not taught to the younger preschoolers. We stress the development of socially acceptable behavioral skills to enable your preschooler to become age-appropriately independent. For example, the children practice proper table manners, bathroom skills and cleanliness (blowing their own nose, washing their hands), and learn how to get along with one another. We encourage our preschoolers to problem-solve by hearing and listening to each others’ words. Several years ago, as an experiment, we began to teach our four year old children American Sign Language, where they learned how to "sign" individual letters with their hands. This received such a positive reaction from parents that we have expanded it to include teaching the children to sign words, simple sentences and songs. Our four & five year olds are taught the Spanish Language. Number concepts are developed and reinforced throughout each day. Besides the use of number cards, counting, and filling in the calendar at circle time, we provide the children with number puzzles, number boats, and other numerically educational toys. Our Preschool curriculum is divided into a series of weekly themes Each week we emphasize a different theme. From September to December these themes are designed to acquaint the children with each other, their community, the world around them and with common childhood experiences such as nursery rhymes and Disney characters. January begins the academic portion of the school year. Each week we emphasize a different letter of the alphabet, talking about words and items that start with that letter. For example, during "B" week we may discuss Bats, Balls and Butterflies. The last few weeks of each school year are used as a review of the entire year's learning experiences. Each week's activities are guided by a Lesson Plan which details the activities for each day of the week, Monday through Thursday. Fridays at Country Park have an open agenda: this is a fun day, a "do anything" day and the children can choose/vote on what they want to do. Many times we repeat a few of their favorite activities from earlier in the week and we always incorporate science exploration into the day. |
